How InternROI estimates a programme’s return

What counts towards the headline figure, what is reported beside it, and what is not valued.

InternROI estimates what an internship programme returns against what it costs. The calculation follows a published methodology, and every figure says which version produced it — you will see its name and version, for example UAE-ROI, in the ROI screen’s header and at the foot of every report.

For the reasoning behind the methodology, see How the return is calculated. This article explains what you will see in the product.

Verified value: the headline figure

The Return on investment percentage counts only verified value — work the interns actually delivered:

  • Productive contribution — the value of the interns’ work, measured against what the same work would cost as a full-time hire.
  • Projects completed — the value of completed projects.
  • Other savings — other savings you can attribute to the programme.
  • Emiratisation quota saving — counted only if you switch on National Talent Impact. It is off by default.

Costs are what the programme spends: recruiting and onboarding, stipends, mentoring, equipment and workspace, and career fairs.

Strategic value: reported beside it, never inside it

Hiring value is a forecast, not delivered work, so it is never added to the headline. It appears separately as Strategic value, reported separately:

  • Recruiting savings on former interns — what you save by hiring a former intern instead of recruiting externally.
  • Hiring investment retained at two years — the hiring investment in interns who are still employed two years on.

The strategic card also tells you what the ratio would be with this value included, so you can quote both.

What is not valued

Some things are recorded but deliberately given no money value, and the product says so rather than guessing:

  • Perks & benefits are recorded for the record only. They are not counted as a benefit or as a cost.
  • Talent-pipeline and employer-brand value are described, not valued. Their methods are still open, so they are reported at zero.
  • CSR contribution — the CSR switch in your organisation settings changes nothing in the return yet.

Warnings

When a figure needs care, a warning appears under About these figures — for example, that whether an intern offsets a quota position is your company’s own judgement and should be checked against current MoHRE guidance. Read these before a figure leaves your company. Each report keeps the warnings of the version it was made under.
